My friend and stylist, Jenny, had an interview at the beauty salon in the Waldorf-Astoria hotel Friday. She asked me to be her hair model to demonstrate her "up-dos." We arrived early, taking refuge in St. Bart's across the street. At the Waldorf, a woman in a maid's costume brought us coffee and lemon water. I sang excerpts from Mozart's Requiem and The Marriage of Figaro, to soothe Jenny while she did my hair in two different styles; between dos, Jenny regaled the staff with tales of my life as an opera singer and my friendship with Kiri Te Kanawa. On the way home, she bought me a cookie for being such a good girl.
