My friend Nadette is a cyclist/activist with a healthily developed sense of whimsy, so it came as no surprise when she told me she was performing in a bicycle ballet. Sunday, June 19, she participated with about 15 other bike-dancers in a mobile piece called Freewheeling Bike Project, choreographed by Mary Seidman. Presented by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's SiteLines Series 2005 and the River to River Festival, the cyclists performed a 1o minute-ish routine, accompanied by their own bells and whistles, at 7 different locations across the southern tip of Manhattan beginning at Rutger's Slip and South Street and ending at The Boathouse at Pier 25. As with most things Nadette, it was a hoot.

Afterward, we were treated to a celebratory picnic in the park behind Stuyvesant School. My feet, and my tummy, were very happy there.
