SHLD Week 2005 (Day One observed)
Scott's Here, Let's Drink Week 2005My darling friend and former roommate, Scott, comes to visit from the Indiana hinterlands once every January to hold auditions for his theater. He arrived late Friday afternoon and, because of hours of delays, was too tuckered out to Rummikub last night. So, the official start of SHLD Week waited until Saturday.
We had a lovely lunch at West Side Cottage, then trapsed off to H&M for the requisite shopping adventure. Scott bought a pair of hot pants (hot pants, not hotpants) and a cool striped shirt. I purchased lipgloss, earrings and scored a kick-ass black dress for $10. Shivering in the winter wind, we hopped a bus to meet an old (long time not aged) friend for dinner and drinks.

We met Brian at City Grill on Columbus for a quick cocktail. He was sitting at the bar looking stunningly Euro-trash in long blonde hair, knit cap and blue-tinted sunglasses (he had his reasons). Scott flirted with the gorgeous Heather-Hedley-look-alike bartender and I repeatedly checked my cell phone for new messages (I was even irritating myself) before heading over to Candle Bar on Amsterdam. Since The Works closed its sticky doors, Candle Bar has become the new seedy Upper West Side pick-up spot. Within minutes of our arrival, Brian and I claimed the pool table and some guy stuck his tongue down Scott's throat while he waited at the bar for our drinks. 10 cents a dance, baby.
Brian kicked our asses at 8-ball (not once, not twice, but three times, lady) a mere 24-hours after his Lasik surgery. A pirate watched in lusty admiration.
